6.23.24 BY THE LIGHT: "Transformed by the Light"
Acts 9:1-10a, 17-18, Psalm 119:105-112
Dear Trinity Family & Friends:
I pray you are enjoying our current sermon series, “By The Light.” Over the last few weeks, we have been exploring the theme of light throughout the Judeo-Christian Tradition. I am thrilled to preach this week’s sermon entitled “Transformed By the Light,” based on Acts 9:1-10a, 17-18 (CEB). This powerful passage tells the story of Saul’s dramatic encounter with the light of Christ on the road to Damascus, a moment that changed his life and the course of Christian history.
In Acts 9, we witness Saul, a persecutor of Christians, encountering a blinding light from heaven. This divine light leaves him physically blind but spiritually awakened. Jesus’ question, “Saul, Saul, why are you harassing me?” marks the beginning of Saul’s journey from darkness to light. His following healing and baptism by Ananias highlight the redemptive power of God’s grace and the transformative impact of being illuminated by his light.
We will also reflect on Psalm 119:105-112 (CEB), where the psalmist declares, “Your word is a lamp before my feet and a light for my journey.” This beautiful passage reminds us that God’s word illuminates our path, guiding us through life’s challenges and leading us into a deeper relationship with him.
To prepare our hearts and minds for this week, I invite you to think on these questions:
- Reflect on a moment in your life when you experienced a profound change. How did God’s light play a role in that transformation?
- In what ways can we be more receptive to the light of Christ in our daily lives, especially when facing personal struggles or doubts?
- Psalm 119 speaks of God’s word as a guiding light. How can we integrate the wisdom and guidance of Scripture more fully into our decision-making and daily actions?
As we gather this Sunday, let us come ready to be illuminated and transformed by the light of Christ. May we be inspired to live as reflections of his light, bringing hope and grace to those around us.
Blessings,
Pastor Dedric
