6.16.24 BY THE LIGHT: "Redeemed by the Light"
John 18:1-12, Psalm 27
Dear Trinity Family & Friends:
This week, we continue our journey through our current sermon series, “By The Light,” exploring the profound and transformative influence of God’s light in our lives. I am excited to preach this week’s sermon entitled “Redeemed By the Light” based on John 8:1-12 (CEB). This passage not only sheds light on the powerful act of forgiveness but also illuminates the transformative power of God’s grace in our lives.
In John 8, we encounter the story of a woman caught in adultery, facing condemnation and possible death. Yet, in this moment of utter despair, Jesus shines his light of compassion and mercy, saying, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on, don’t sin anymore.” This declaration is a beacon of hope, reminding us that no matter how deep our darkness, the light of Christ can redeem and transform us. Jesus, the Light of the World, brings hope and redemption to even the darkest corners of our lives.
We will also reflect on Psalm 27 (CEB), where David proclaims, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—should I fear anyone?” These verses reaffirm that with God as our light, we are guided, protected, and uplifted, even in times of trouble.
To prepare our hearts and minds this week, I invite you to join me in thinking on the following questions:
- Reflect on a time when you felt surrounded by darkness. How did the presence of God’s light make a difference in that situation?
- In what ways can we, as followers of Christ, shine his light in our community, especially to those who feel condemned or marginalized?
- Psalm 27 speaks of seeking God’s presence and finding safety and joy in him. How can we cultivate a deeper awareness of God’s presence in our daily lives?
As we gather this Sunday, let us come with open hearts, ready to be redeemed and renewed by the light of Christ. May we be inspired to carry this light into the world, offering hope and grace to all we encounter.
Blessings,
Pastor Dedric
