7.27.25 Living the Covenant: Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly
Isaiah 6:1-8
Dear Trinity Family & Friends,
This week, we finish our Living the Covenant series with a message entitled “Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly.” These familiar words from Micah 6:8 capture the heart of what covenant living should look like. But when we hold them alongside the piercing honesty of Amos 5 and Isaiah 6, we’re reminded just how often we fall short, and just how deeply God desires something more.
In Amos, God speaks through the prophet to call out a people who are doing all the religious rituals, yet none of the heart work. Their worship is polished, but their lives are unjust. Their songs are loud, but their compassion is silent. And God says: I want none of it.
Micah 6:8 is not a spiritual suggestion, it’s the fruit of covenant faithfulness. It is who we are called to be, even when it’s easier to be something less. God establishes the covenant, and we are invited into trust, repentance, and transformation. Not to check a box, but to become people of justice, kindness, and humility.
In Isaiah 6, we witness a vision of God’s holiness so overwhelming that the prophet cries out in repentance. But even there, perhaps especially there, God steps in with grace. The coal that touches Isaiah’s lips is painful, but purifying. God doesn’t walk away. Instead, God invites: Whom shall I send?
This is the hard, holy invitation of covenant life. Not just to attend worship, but to live it. Not just to know the words of justice, but to do justice. Not just to admire kindness, but to share it. Not just to believe in God, but to walk humbly with God as well as with one another.

Small Group Discussion Questions:
- What kind of worship does God desire from us? How can we tell when our practices are disconnected from our daily living?
- How do you see the call to “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly” showing up in your own life right now? What’s most difficult for you?
- Amos and Isaiah both challenge the comfort of religious people. How does God use prophets, then and now, to wake us up to holy living?
- Where are the margins in our own community today? Who is God calling you to listen to, learn from, and care for?
This week’s message reminds us that holiness isn’t something we achieve on Sundays. Instead, it’s something we embody every day: in our jobs, in our schools, in our relationships, and in the quiet places where no one is watching. We may not all be public prophets, but each of us can be a quiet nudge toward holiness in our circles of influence.
Even when we’ve walked away, God hasn’t. And the invitation still stands: Come back. Live the covenant. Be holy, as I am holy.
Blessings,
Pastor Carrie
