7.20.25 LIVING THE COVENANT: Doers of the Word
James 1:22–27; 2 Peter 1:3–11
Dear Trinity Family & Friends,
One of the most direct challenges in all of Scripture comes from James: “Be doers of the word, and not merely hearers.” It’s a reminder that covenant living is not just about what we believe—it’s about how we live it out.
This week, we turn to that challenge as we explore “Doers of the Word.” We live in a time when it’s easy to confuse knowing with doing. We can listen to podcasts, read devotionals, and attend worship services—and still miss the heart of transformation. James calls us out of passive faith and into active discipleship: a faith that visits the vulnerable, watches its words, and reflects God’s character in everyday life.
Peter echoes this in his second letter, encouraging us to grow in virtues like self-control, endurance, and love—reminding us that God’s divine power has given us everything we need to live a godly life. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s progression—becoming more like Christ in word and deed.
As we prepare for worship this Sunday, I encourage you to consider where your faith is calling you to move—from hearing to doing, from knowing to embodying, from belief to bold action.

Small Group Discussion Questions:
- What do you think it means to be a “doer” of the Word in today’s world? Where have you seen that kind of active faith in action?
- James warns against deceiving ourselves by only listening. In what areas of your life might you be hearing but not yet doing?
- Peter lists a progression of spiritual traits (2 Peter 1:5–7). Which of these traits do you feel God inviting you to grow in right now?
- What small action could you take this week to embody your faith more fully? How might that action serve as a witness to others?
Let’s not just talk about covenant living—let’s live it. I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday as we respond to God’s Word with our whole lives.
With you on the journey,
Pastor Dedric
