7.12.26 SOUL CARE: When the Soul Is Exhausted
1 Kings 19:1–8, Psalm 23
Trinity Family & Friends:
This Sunday, we continue our series Soul Care with the message “Rested and Renewed” based on 1 Kings 19:1–8. One of the most important moments in Elijah’s story comes immediately after his greatest public success. After confronting the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Elijah flees into the wilderness overwhelmed, fearful, and emotionally exhausted.
Scripture offers a deeply human portrait of faith here. Elijah reaches the point of burnout, and God responds not with condemnation, but with compassion. Before offering instruction, God allows Elijah to rest, eat, and recover.
In a culture that often glorifies overwork and constant productivity, this story reminds us that rest is not weakness. Sometimes rest itself becomes a holy act of trust.
Reflect and Prepare:
- Why do you think Elijah collapses emotionally after such a dramatic victory?
- What stands out about God’s response to Elijah’s exhaustion?
- How does modern culture encourage unhealthy rhythms of work and productivity?
- Why is rest often treated as weakness rather than wisdom?
- How does Psalm 23 deepen our understanding of restoration?
- What practices help restore your soul spiritually and emotionally?
Our world moves quickly, and many people are carrying more exhaustion than they realize. This week, may we be reminded that God cares not only about what we accomplish, but also about the condition of our souls. May we learn again how to slow down, breathe deeply, and receive the rest God desires to give.
Blessings,
Pastor Dedric
