7.5.26 SOUL CARE: Praying Until the Rain Comes

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser • June 29, 2026

1 Kings 18:41–46, 1 Samuel 12:13–18

 Trinity Family & Friends,

This Sunday, we continue our series Soul Care with the message “Waiting for Rain” based on 1 Kings 18:41–46. Even after God answers with fire on Mount Carmel, the drought continues. Israel has witnessed God’s power, yet the rain has still not come. Elijah’s story reminds us that spiritual breakthrough and visible change do not always happen at the same time.

There are seasons in life when we pray, trust, and remain faithful, yet circumstances do not immediately improve. Throughout Scripture, faith is often formed in the waiting. Elijah bows low in prayer and continues sending his servant to watch the horizon, even when there is no visible sign of change.

Eventually, a small cloud appears in the distance. It was small, easy to overlook, yet carrying the promise of coming rain. Sometimes God’s movement begins quietly before we can fully see what God is doing.

Soul care often means learning how to remain faithful in seasons of waiting, trusting that God is still at work even before the rain arrives.

Reflect and Prepare:

  1. Why is waiting such a difficult spiritual practice?
  2. What does Elijah’s posture of prayer communicate spiritually?
  3. How does this story reflect the tension between faith and visible results?
  4. What role does perseverance play within biblical prayer?
  5. Why are “small clouds” of hope easy to overlook?
  6. Where might God be inviting you to remain patient and faithful?

Our lives often move quickly, and we naturally long for immediate answers and visible progress. Yet Scripture invites us into a slower and deeper trust, one that remains faithful even before the rain arrives. May God strengthen our hearts to wait with hope, perseverance, and expectation.

See you Sunday!
Pastor Dedric
