3.15.26 JESUS IN HIGH-RESOLUTION: What Jesus Really Said

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowswer • March 9, 2026

Luke 4:16–30, Isaiah 58:6–12

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

Sometimes resistance to Jesus is not caused by confusion. Sometimes it is caused by clarity. In Nazareth, Jesus reads from Isaiah and announces that the Scripture is fulfilled in him. At first, the crowd admires him. Then they understand him. And when they understand him, they are enraged.

Why? Because Jesus’ words disrupt assumptions. They stretch boundaries. They challenge privilege. They refuse to be edited into something comfortable.

Lent invites us to ask a sobering question: Do we want Jesus clearly or conveniently?

This week’s small group study will help us wrestle honestly with what discipleship requires. Not selective hearing. Not spiritual curation. But courage.
