Opening Reflection

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declares, “You are the light of the world.” Because Jesus is the light of the world, his followers are called to reflect his mercy, justice, holiness, and love.

The “you” is plural. Jesus is speaking to a community whose shared witness points beyond itself so that others may see God’s character and give God glory. Paul reminds us that generosity is part of this shared witness. Our giving meets needs, strengthens relationships, and produces thanksgiving to God. We offer our time, talents, and finances not to earn grace, but in grateful response to the grace we have already received in Christ.

Discussion Questions

1. Where do you see God’s light shining through Trinity’s ministries and people?
2. What is the difference between letting our light shine and drawing attention to ourselves?
3. Paul says giving should not come from pressure. What helps generosity grow from gratitude and joy?
4. What has God placed in your hands that could become a source of hope or help for someone else?
5. How does our generosity point people toward God rather than toward ourselves?
6. What could Trinity do together that none of us could accomplish alone?

Consider what God has placed in your hands. Name one way you could offer your time, talents, finances, influence, or opportunities through God’s work.

Jesus calls us the light of the world. Consider where God may be inviting you to shine more clearly through your words, choices, service, or generosity.

Closing Prayer

God of grace, you have given us more than we can count. Teach us to receive your gifts with gratitude and share them with joy. Let your light shine through our words, choices, service, and generosity so that others may see your goodness and give you glory. Amen.
