8.17.25 TRUSTING THE COVENANT: Provision of Prayer

Rev. Carrie Jones • August 11, 2025

Psalm 13:1-6, Psalm 107:1-9

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

Have you ever prayed and felt like God responded with silence? As if your words were hanging in the air, unanswered and unheard? Such a feeling can be disorienting. But Scripture reminds us: even in our deepest pain and waiting, God provides.

This Sunday, we continue in our Trusting the Covenant sermon series with a message entitled “Provision of Prayer,” grounded in two rich and honest psalms, Psalm 13:1–6 and Psalm 107:1–9. These passages give voice to the full spectrum of human experience. Psalm 13 is a raw cry of lament: “How long, Lord?” while Psalm 107 turns our attention to God’s enduring faithfulness: “Give thanks to the Lord because he is good.”

Together, they remind us that prayer is not a performance. It is a lifeline. When we bring our praise and our pain, our celebration and our sorrow, we are choosing relationship with the God who hears us. And in that relationship, God provides comfort, hope, and the sustaining grace we need for the journey.

As you prepare for worship, consider: What prayers are you holding right now? Are they full of praise or full of longing?

Day 2: Psalms 13; 22; 80; 90

Small Group Discussion Questions:

  1. Psalm 13 begins in despair and ends in trust. How do you hold both lament and hope in your spiritual life?
  2. Psalm 107 calls us to give thanks for God's provision. Where have you experienced God's provision recently?
  3. Why is it important to pray honestly, even when our prayers are full of questions or grief?
  4. How can we make space for both praise and lament in our worship, our small groups, and our personal faith?

No matter if you’re in a season of celebration or sorrow, know this: you are not alone, and your prayers matter. I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday as we explore the provision God offers through the covenant of prayer.

Blessings,
Pastor Carrie
