7.6.25 LIVING THE COVENANT: The Pursuit of Wisdom

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser • June 30, 2025

Ecclesiastes 9:11–18; Proverbs 3:13–18

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

As we continue our Living the Covenant series, we find ourselves on Independence Day weekend—a time when we give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy, remember those who’ve sacrificed, and reflect on what it means to live as citizens in this world. It’s also a time to ask deeper questions about how we use our freedom: Are we living wisely? Are we choosing well? Are we aligning our lives with God’s purposes?

This Sunday, we turn our attention to a sermon entitled: “The Pursuit of Wisdom.” Covenant living isn’t just about faithfulness—it’s about discernment. It's about cultivating the ability to make godly decisions in a world full of noise, pressure, and competing values. Wisdom, as the Scriptures remind us, is more valuable than silver and gold—it is “a tree of life to those who embrace her.”

In Ecclesiastes, we see how life doesn’t always reward the strongest or the fastest. Success doesn’t always follow logic. But there is still a quiet, powerful wisdom that speaks—if we’re willing to listen. And in Proverbs, we’re reminded that true wisdom begins with reverence for the Lord and a heart that trusts in His guidance.

As we prepare this week, let’s realign our hearts with the wisdom that comes from above—wisdom that builds, heals, and leads us deeper into covenant.

Episode 13: Discernment

Daily Reading:

Day 1: Proverbs 1 - 4

Day 2: Proverbs 10 - 15

Day 3: Proverbs 25 - 29

Day 4: Ecclesiastes 1 - 4

Day 5: Ecclesiastes 9 - 12

Day 6: Covenant Meditation on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Day 7: Group Meeting Experience with Proverbs 2:1-19

Small Group Discussion Questions:

  1. How do you define wisdom in today’s world? How does biblical wisdom differ from worldly success or cleverness?
  2. Read Proverbs 3:13–18. What qualities of wisdom stand out to you, and why are they worth pursuing?
  3. In Ecclesiastes, the writer acknowledges the unpredictability of life. How does that speak to your own experiences? How can wisdom guide us even when life doesn’t seem fair?
  4. This week we celebrate the gift of freedom. How might God be calling you to use your freedom in ways that reflect His wisdom and covenant love?

May this week be a time not only of celebration but of reflection—a time to seek wisdom that leads to life.

See you in worship!

Pastor Dedric
