5.18.25 (Senior Sunday): The Race We Run

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser • May 12, 2025

Hebrews 12:1-2, Proverbs 3:1-6

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

This Sunday is a special day in the life of our church—Senior Sunday! We’ll be honoring and celebrating our graduating high school seniors as they prepare to enter a new chapter in their lives. These young adults have grown in faith, served in ministry, and journeyed through important seasons right here at Trinity. Now, we have the joy of sending them forward with love, prayer, and encouragement.

Our sermon this Sunday is entitled “The Race We Run,” based on Hebrews 12:1–2 and Proverbs 3:1–6. Both of these passages speak beautifully into the moment our seniors—and all of us—find ourselves in: standing on the threshold of the unknown, choosing to trust God with what comes next.

In Hebrews, we’re reminded that we are “surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses.” We’re called to run with perseverance, to let go of what holds us back, and to fix our eyes on Jesus—the one who leads us and perfects our faith. This is not just a message for graduates—it’s a message for all of us who are running the race of life, one step at a time.

In Proverbs, we hear the call to “trust in the Lord with all your heart” and to not lean on our own understanding. That’s easier said than done, especially in a world that tells us we should always have it all figured out. But the promise of Scripture is this: when we acknowledge God in all our ways, God will make our paths straight.

I want to encourage you to invite family and friends to this meaningful service. Let’s show our graduating seniors what it means to be Trinity Together—a church that surrounds, supports, and sends with love.

As we prepare for worship, consider reflecting on these questions:

  •
  • What season of life are you in right now—and how is God inviting you to run your race faithfully in it?
  • Who are the mentors, role models, or “cloud of witnesses” that have encouraged you on your journey?
  • What are some things you may need to release in order to run with greater freedom and purpose?
  • How might deeper trust in God change the way you approach the future—for yourself or for someone you love?

I am so proud of our seniors and so grateful for the ways this congregation continues to nurture, support, and celebrate one another. Whether you are walking across a stage or walking through a difficult season, you are not alone. God is with you—and so are we.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Dedric
