5.17.26 WHEN THE SPIRIT MOVES: Doors Open

Rev Carrie Jones • May 11, 2026

Acts 12:1–16, Psalm 34:15–19

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

This Sunday, we continue with our sermon series When the Spirit Moves with the message: “Doors Open.” As we gather, we will also celebrate Senior Sunday, recognizing our graduating high school seniors. This is a meaningful moment in the life of our church, a time when we honor their journey, give thanks for who they have become, and acknowledge the new chapter that lies before them. Graduation is, in many ways, a season of open doors – some anticipated, others uncertain.

There are moments in life when things feel closed and options seem narrow. In Acts 12, Peter is in one of those moments, and yet, while the church is praying, something unexpected happens. A door opens. It’s a powerful reminder that God’s movement is not always predictable and that sometimes, our expectations are smaller than God’s power. The same God who opened a way for Peter continues to open paths before us, often in ways we do not see coming.

And for our seniors, and for all of us, that truth matters. Because stepping into the future requires trust. Not just in what we can plan, but in the God who goes before us.

Reflect and Prepare

  1. Where do you feel stuck right now?
  2. How do you respond when things feel out of your control?
  3. What role does prayer play in those moments?
  4. When have you experienced an unexpected answer to prayer?
  5. How open are you to God working in surprising ways?
  6. What might it look like to trust God more fully?
  7. Where might God already be at work?

Even when we cannot see a way forward, God is still at work. As we celebrate our seniors and the doors opening before them, may we all be reminded that our future is not defined by what we can see, but by the faithfulness of the God who leads us forward by opening doors in ways we never imagined.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Carrie
