9.7.25 TRUSTING THE COVENANT: Invited to Heal and Hope (Holy Communion)

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser • September 1, 2025

Isaiah 55:1-13, Isaiah 40:1-5

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

This Sunday, we continue our Trusting the Covenant series with a sermon entitled “Invited to Heal and Hope.” In Isaiah 55 and Isaiah 40, God speaks tenderly to a people who are weary, wounded, and worn out—people not unlike us.

In Isaiah 40, the people are in exile. They’ve lost their way. And yet, God speaks: “Comfort, comfort my people… Prepare the way of the Lord.” Even before the healing arrives, God makes a promise: I’m coming to you. I’m making a way.

By Isaiah 55, the invitation widens: Come eat, come drink, come find joy and peace. Healing isn’t earned; it’s offered. Hope isn’t something we manufacture; it’s something we receive. This is the heartbeat of covenant: not that we have it all together, but that we belong to a God who meets us in our mess and invites us into wholeness.

As we come to the Communion Table this Sunday, we remember that healing and hope are not abstract ideas—they are embodied in Christ, offered freely, and received by grace.

  2. In what ways have you experienced God’s healing—physically, emotionally, or spiritually?
  3. Isaiah 40 says, “Prepare the way for the Lord.” What might it look like to prepare space in your life for God’s healing presence?
  4. How does Holy Communion remind you of God’s invitation to come, be filled, and be made whole?

If you’re longing for a fresh start, or just need a word of comfort—this Sunday is for you. Come to the Table. Come to the Source. Come and find hope.

Blessings,

Pastor Dedric
