10.26.25 WHAT CAN I GIVE BACK?: A Church that Gives Back (Commitment Sunday)

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser • October 20, 2025

Acts 2:42-47; 2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

This Sunday is one of the most joyful and important days in our church year — Commitment Sunday!

For the past month, we’ve been asking a simple yet life-shaping question from Psalm 116: “What can I give back to the Lord for all the good things he has done for me?” Week by week, we’ve explored how gratitude overflows into generous hearts, Spirit-filled lives, and now, in our final message, a church that gives back together.

Our scriptures for this Sunday, Acts 2:42–47 and 2 Corinthians 9:6–11, paint a beautiful picture of what happens when God’s people live and give in community. The early church devoted themselves to worship, teaching, fellowship, prayer, and radical generosity — and “the Lord added daily to the community those who were being saved.” Paul reminds us that God provides all we need so that we can be generous in every way, resulting in thanksgiving to God.

That’s what Commitment Sunday is all about. It’s more than filling out a card. It’s an act of worship, a moment where each of us says:

I believe in the mission of this church.

I trust God to provide for my needs.

I want to be part of something that changes lives in the name of Jesus.

During worship, we will each be invited to bring forward our 2026 Estimate of Giving Card as a visible, tangible expression of our commitment to Christ’s work through Trinity. Just as the bread and cup are signs of God’s grace, our giving becomes a sign of our gratitude.

This is a celebration of what God is doing among us and through us. When we give back together, we become a living witness to the love of Christ in Huntsville and beyond.

Small Group & Personal Reflection Questions:

  1. Acts 2 describes a church devoted to worship, learning, fellowship, prayer, and generosity. Which of these has most shaped your faith?
  2. Paul says God “will provide you with more than enough” so you can be generous in every way. How have you experienced that promise in your own life?
  3. How does giving as part of a church family differ from giving on your own?
  4. What excites you most about the ministry our church can accomplish together in 2026?
  5. What step of faith is God inviting you to take as you make your commitment this Sunday?
  6. How does your giving reflect your gratitude for all God has done for you?

I can’t wait to worship with you on this special day. Come ready to celebrate, to give thanks, and to say with joy, “Here’s what I can give back to the Lord.”

Blessings,

Pastor Dedric
