3.24.24 Signs & Wonders: “The Miracle Question”

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser • Mar 18, 2024

John 11:27-44; I Corinthians 15:51-55 (NRSV)

Dear Trinity Family & Friends:

As we approach this Palm Sunday, we anticipate celebrating together in a special way. Both our 9 am Traditional and 10:30 am Contemporary services will feature a children’s procession, symbolizing Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This day sets the stage for Holy Week, leading us into a deeper reflection of Jesus’ journey to the cross and his ultimate victory over death.

This week’s sermon, entitled “The Miracle Question,” draws us into the heart of John 11:27-44 (NRSV), where we encounter Jesus in a transformative moment with Martha. After revealing himself as “the resurrection and the life,” Jesus poses a profound question to Martha, “Do you believe this?” This question is not just for Martha, but it echoes through the ages to each of us, calling us to reflect on our own faith in Jesus’ power over death and his promise of eternal life.

We will also read 1 Corinthians 15:51-55 (NRSV), where Paul speaks about victory over death through our Lord Jesus Christ, reinforcing the theme of resurrection and the transformative power of faith in Jesus.

As we prepare our hearts for this message, I encourage you to reflect on these questions:

  1. What does believing in Jesus as “the resurrection and the life” mean to you personally? Reflect on how this belief shapes your understanding of life, death, and the promise of eternity.
  2. How does Jesus’ question to Martha, “Do you believe this?” challenge or affirm your current faith journey?
  3. In what ways can the assurance of victory over death impact your daily living and interactions with others?

Palm Sunday is not only a celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem but also a reminder of the journey he undertook for our salvation. Let us come together, in anticipation and reflection, as we explore “The Miracle Question” and prepare our hearts for the profound journey of Holy Week. May this time of preparation draw you closer to the heart of God, as we seek to answer Jesus’ question with a resounding “Yes, I believe.”

Blessings,

Pastor Dedric
