Urgent need for volunteers

  • Warehouse volunteers - the warehouse in Decatur needs people to process, sort, and prepare collected items for shipment. There is a huge need for anyone with medical or pharmaceutical knowledge in order to help sort and identify items. Contact Matt Reed for details, or click here to find directions and contact information.

Situation update

Since the last update, many things have changed regarding needs, priorities, and assessment of capabilities. One of the aspects of this disaster in Haiti is that it is so unlike the disaster we have responded to in the past.

Without going into too much detail, because of the pre-existing gaps in care, organization, and poverty, compounded by Haiti's remoteness, lack of adequate ports and air entry, and extent of serious injury, the standard relief and response timetable has been extended. This means that relief workers in Haiti are still addressing first-level crises, when in other situations this stage would have already subsided.

What this means for us as a church and people of compassion, is that our usual efforts to respond and support those in need are different than how we have done things in the past.  Additionally, through prayer and the efforts of some extremely gifted people in our congregation and in our community, we have felt led that Trinity's resources would best be used by concentrating them on very specific areas.

Financial donations are accepted at Trinity will go toward relief efforts being coordinated here. Make checks payable to Trinity UMC with the memo indicating Haiti Relief. 100% of the money collected will go directly to providing relief to the people of Haiti.
